My Favorite Sewing Project

This first semester of my Sophomore year, I was in Sewing and Home Decor. It is a Family and Consumer Science class dedicated to the creation of items to be placed in your home.

My favorite project that I made in this class was my backpack. I sewed it out of denim, both large pieces of cloth and old jeans. I used the jeans to make patches on the outside of the backpack, and the pieces of denim made up the rest of the backpack. I used a pattern from McCall’s.

While making this project I enjoyed sewing on the patches from old jeans. I had a little bit of trouble with the straps, however, as when I was ironing them the iron got turned too hot and they melted a little bit. So make sure you always check the iron heat. To make this project, I would recommend having a little bit of past sewing experience, but it shouldn’t require too much as it is a fairly simple project.
