Outlive Your Life Final

Chapter 10 Review

Hi! I’m Eliese, an 8th grader at Lincoln Lutheran Middle and High School. This is for my Religion 8 class. We are pretending to be five star book critiques.

I believe the theme of this chapter is love. In the beginning he says that God makes the poor his priority. Therefore we should make the poor our priority. We should show them love and compassion, and teach them the good news of Christ. I believe that the author’s main point was that we need to share Jesus’ love with everyone, not just our friends. That relates to the theme I found by saying that we need to give love to everybody not just the rich but the poor and middle class too. I do not think there are any implied ideas, I think that author speaks very plainly and openly in this chapter as well as covering all the ideas. I think the author’s goal with this chapter was to show us how God thinks we should share the Word and to give us ideas on how we can do it.

Prayer for Chapter 10 Review

Dear Jesus, thank you for teaching me how to love. I am very sorry for when I have not loved others when they needed it, and I am very sorry for expecting help after I do that. I ask for your forgiveness. I also ask that you would heal the sick and help the poor so that they can be strong like you. Please help and bless them, and help me see opportunities to help them also. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.

Chapter 9 Review

Hi! I’m Eliese, an 8th grader at Lincoln Lutheran Middle and High School. This is for my Religion 8 class. We are pretending to be five star book critiques.

I believe the theme for this chapter is hypocrisy. I believe this because on pg 88 the book says, “We are selling an acre and give every mite of it to the Widow’s Fund.” Ananias and Sapphira wanted popularity. Then on page 89,” What if we tell them we sold the property for just ten thousand dollars? She smiled. “Like a five-thousand-dollar down payment on a Jaffa condo?” I believe the author’s main point was that we need to do good things but not for popularity. If we do good and tell everyone just so we can be popular, what was really the intent of our actions while we did the good thing? We should do good things but not attention. I believe the author was implying that Hypocrisy is going against others, yes, but it is also going against God. I think the author’s goals was to get the message out that good deeds are good, but they become a sin or even a terrible thing if we do them and then spread the word about what we did, and I think he achieved it. For me at least. I believe that Ananias and Sapphira needed to die because they didn’t ever really have good intentions about giving the money. They wanted to do it for fame. When they got more money that expected for their land, they decided to keep some of it and lie to the church by saying they sold the land for ten thousand but they had sold the land for fifteen thousand. By lying to the church they were upright lying to God, and when confronted they denied their lies and didn’t repent. By not repenting or telling the truth they were basically saying that they deserve the extra fifteen thousand more than anybody and they also imply that they view  worldly things more than their lives in heaven.

Prayer for Chapter 9 Review

Dear Jesus, Thank you for forgiving me when I sin against you, and for loving me enough to pay the price so God will also. I am very sorry for every sin I have ever committed, and I apologize for when I tell lies, because when I lie to them I am lying to you. Please help me to overcome temptation if it is the Father’s will. Thank you for paying that price, Jesus. Amen.

Chapter 3 Review

Hi! I’m Eliese, and 8th grader at Lincoln Lutheran Middle and High School. This is for my Religion 8 class. We are pretending to be five star book critiques.

I think the theme of this chapter is selfishness. I think that way because he is explaining in this chapter how we hide ourselves in a shell and try to avoid the problems of the world. We don’t like getting ourselves mixed up in other people’s lives. Like in the book, he says, “What would we do without our clamshells? Don’t know what I’d do without mine.” I think he is trying to point out that we hide from the problems and don’t do what we can to help others out. He explains that by saying the problems of the world are to immense, to complex, and to intense. He states that there are at least one billion poor people. He asks when is helping actually hurting? He says that we have enough problems of our own. I think that the implied ideas are that we are to selfish because we avoid the problems of others, but beg for help when we have problems of our own. He even says, “That’s true. We do have our own issues… How can we save the world when we can’t even change our bad habits? We don’t have what it takes to solve these problems. Best to climb in and shut the shell, right?” I think the author’s goal was to inform us that we are not the only ones that hide from the problems of the world, and to point out our selfishness. I am sure that he accomplished his goal, and he did a very good job of it.

Prayer for Chapter 3 Review

Dear Jesus, thank you for reminding me to reach out to the poor and wounded at heart, even though when you tell me to help I don’t. Thank you for forgiving me when I do that and please help me to not close off my heart when I see someone that needs help. Thank you for blessing me with the things I need to help others. Thank you for the strength to help them, Jesus. Amen.

Essay

This book has told me more about Acts in a modern way by giving specific examples on how there are problems in the world that we can relate to one way or another. He also gives us a wider horizon on how we can help solve these problems. He tells us stories about those in need and how people helped them. He is taking the situations that we find in Acts and looking to find situations in our modern life that are somewhat exactly like the ones in the Bible, only changed to show 21st century problems, not 1st century problems.then by changing these issues into problems we can somewhat understand, he is opening a new door for us, one we can use to share the word. This new door is also showing us new information that we otherwise would not have been able to encounter.

I have never “Outlived My Life” because I have never had any chances or reasons to. I haven’t seen any changes because of me “Outliving My Life” because I haven’t “Outlived My Life.” I also really doubt that I will “Outlive My Life” anytime soon because usually to “Outlive Your Life” you need to die after doing something that changes somebody’s life. I am doubtful that I will be dying anytime soon because I have not accomplished anything and I don’t even know how I can do what I was made to do, therefore, I cannot die until I accomplish what I must accomplish. I also haven’t done anything “Outlive Your Life” worthy to be called that, therefore, I cannot really answer this question. And if I have not done anything to “Outlive My Life” then I can’t have caused somebody else to “Outlive Their Life” either. My answer is reason.

I haven’t had exciting experiences talking with anybody, but I have had experiences. Both involve one of my neighbors, but two different ones. The first one was with my backyard neighbor, and it was about how the world came to be. We argued for about a half hour then he went inside, and I guess that means he was either bored, was getting cold, was getting bored, or he was forfeiting. I don’t have any plans that the Spirit would move through me that would be exciting, but when I grow up I want to be a writer. Also a YouTuber. Those jobs on their own are enough to get a family of six by, but if I do both I could end up with a lot of cash. My plans are to give all of that money to the poor, and only keep what I need to survive and pay off the bills.

One verse I chose is Philippians 4:7– And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. I chose this verse because to me it says that we should always trust Jesus, and when I trust Jesus I can see that inside myself I am stronger than I was before.  This verse applies to the unit because I believe the author’s main goal of this whole book was to get us to get up and go out and serve God. The other verse I chose was 2 Samuel 6:14a– And David danced before the Lord with all his might. I chose this verse because I want to praise God in every way, with all my strength, every day of my life, and in this verse I see that that’s also what David wanted to do for the Lord. This verse applies to the unit because Max explains how some people helped out in situations, and so they were serving God with all their hearts and strength.

I was gone the day that we watched AD: The Bible Continues so I don’t believe that I can answer this question until I do watch it, which I do not think will happen.
