This is the second video that we’ve made in our Video Editing class. Our task was to film the snowfall on January 25th, 2021 and edit a video together.

I ended up making a video of a walk that I took with my mom. There were also some clips of while the snow was falling, but since you couldn’t really see the snow that well I didn’t include very many of them. Since the clips from the 25th didn’t work out like I had hoped, I went for a walk with my mom on the 30th and managed to get enough footage to use for the video. Since I don’t have any pets or siblings and we don’t get to visit family much, this was the only thing that I could come up with on short notice. I like how it turned out, though, so I’m not upset.

There isn’t really a portion of the video that I’m proudest of or least proud of as I like it all about the same. There are a couple clips that didn’t really turn out exactly like I had hoped, but I used transitions to make it look better and fit together nicer.

I think the part were the footage turned out different than I thought it would while filming were a bit harder for me. While I was filming, I was thinking of things that I could use in the video, and every time I was taking a clip I tried to think of a couple ways I could use it. Since my mom and I went to the park near our house, I had intended to get a lot of footage there, but a lot of the footage from the park didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped. I didn’t end up getting as much useful footage at the park as I had wanted, so I ended up needing to use more of the walking footage than I originally intended. The video ended up being more focused on the walking than actually doing things in the snow, but I kind of like how it turned out since it sort of fits with the saying about it’s the journey, not the destination.

Since the footage was different when I was editing it than I thought it would turn out while I was shooting, I think the most difficult part of editing the blizzard footage was thinking of what I could instead of what I had originally planned. I think this has helped me a bit with thinking on the spot while editing, and if this ever happens again in the future I don’t think it’ll be a problem since I’ve already figured out what to do.

If I could do the project differently, I would probably only change when we took the walk. Most likely, I would take the walk with my mom on Monday when the snow was still fresh instead of on Saturday, since by then a lot of the snow was slushy and dirty. I think the video would look better if we had been going through clean snow rather than walking through dirty, slushy snow.
